2024 Thomas and Uber Cup: All you need to know

2024 Thomas and Uber Cup or, officially known as TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 will be the 33rd edition of the Thomas Cup and the 30th edition of the Uber Cup.

This year, the biennial international badminton championship, sponsored by M88 Mansion, contested by the men and women’s national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Here are all you need to know about coming elite competition.

2024 Thomas and Uber Cup: Origins, When and Where for the coming competition

• Thomas Cup is an International Badminton tournament as a World Men’s Team Championship organized by Badminton World Federation (BWF). 
• Uber Cup is a biannual Women’s Badminton World Teams Championship, organized by Badminton World Federation (BWF). The 1st tournament was held in 1956-57 at England & won by the United States, & also the US won the first 3 tournaments consecutively in a row.
• It is same like Men’s Thomas Cup, the World men’s team championship.

The tournament will be hosted at Chengdu, China from 28 April to 5 May 2024.

India are the defending champions for the men’s team, and South Korea for the women’s team.

Thomas and Uber Cup – Previous winners

In 2022, India beat Indonesia 3-0 in Thomas Cup at Bangkok, Thailand, to clinch their very first title of Thomas Cup in the history of the game.

• Indonesia   –  14th times   –   (1958, 1961*, 1964, 1970, 1973*, 1976, 1979*, 1984, 1994*, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 , 2020-21.

• Malaysia  –   5  –   (1949, 1952, 1955, 1967, 1992)

Uber Cup Winners

Meanwhile, China have won the most women’s Uber Cup titles since its inception in 1957 with 15 times.

South Korea stunned defending champions China to win their 2nd Uber Cup title 2022 after a thrilling finale that went down the wire at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

China is the best team has won the Most Uber Cup titles with 15th times, lead by Japan team won the Uber Cup title 6 times with recent 2018 Uber Cup champions.

Canada and the United States were officially named as representatives for Pan Am for the BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 (TUC 2024).
