How Chia and Soh won it
Chia and Soh were in danger in many instances and actually fell behind. Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj and Chirag went all-out to win the first game.
Nevertheless, the crucial moment of the match happened during the 77th minute. The Indians started to make mistakes with missed chances, leaving them frustrated during rallies. Their approach was repelled by a Chia defensive masterclass.
After falling down the first game, 20-22, the Malaysians came back to win the next two, 21-18, 21-16, all thanks to their brilliant tactics.
Earlier in the quarterfinal of the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2022 on August 26, Rankireddy and Shetty outclassed defending champions Hoki Takuro and Kobayashi Yugo, thus ensuring a medal for India.
That is why the Indian pair are proud of themselves, as they signed off with a bronze, the very first of their country in the history of men’s doubles at the World Championships.
Malaysian duo makes history
This is Malaysia’s first doubles final in the elite stage of BWF in 12 years. Not since 2010 has a team from Malaysia been in contention for the last match of the tournament.
This will be the biggest final of Chia and So’s career.
Their opponents will be Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan, who outplayed their compatriots Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, 23-21, 12-21, 21-16.
