BWF Sudirman Cup 2023 Finals Day 1 Highlights as host China started their title defense by thrashing Egypt 5-0, while Malaysia started well despite sitting at Group C, which is also the Group of Death as it is the only group with three top-10 ranked teams in the world.

China in control
The record winers and also the host of Sudirman Cup Finals 2023, China barely broke a sweat against their counterpart in group A tie, having won four of the matches in less than half an hour.

Mixed doubles pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping won the opening tie in style as they swept Ahmed Salah and Hana Tarek Zaher 21-3, 21-8.
In the men’s doubles, Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi downed Kareem Ezzat and Mahmoud Montaser 21-6, 21-7.
A masterclass from Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu as the women’s duo dominated 21-2, 21-4 against Nour Ahmed Youssri and Doha Hany.
Other tie of Group A
Meanwhile, Denmark outclassed Singapore in all departments to bag a 4-1 win, with Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen cruised past Loh Kean Yew in a 59-minute thriller 21-23, 21-13, 21-16.
India did not start well in Group C – Group of Death
India started their campaign in Sudirman Cup 2023 with a loss against Chinese Taipei in the opening Group C encounter going down 1-4 in the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre on Sunday.
Heavy contenders Malaysia went rampant against Australia 5-0 to start with a big win and also take the top spot in the group, while India are third.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu followed and lost her game against former world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying in three sets 14-21, 21-18, 17-21. Chinese Taipei clinched an unassailable lead of 3-0 with this win.
The outcome was not very different with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty who were defeated by Lee Yang and Ye Hong Wei by 13-21, 21-17, 18-21.
Not only had India lost the tie by now but were in danger of being handed a clean sweep by Chinese Taipei.
India’s only victory was the women’s double pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who pulled off a comeback win.
They won their game by 15-21, 21-18 and 21-13 against the pair of Lee Chia Hsin and Teng Chun Hsun. The tie finished with a scoreline of 1-4, in favour of Chinese Taipei.
