Sudirman Day 5 Highlights
China’s Sudirman 2023 ace Li Shi Feng stunned the home crowds with his post-match celebration that was like-no-other.
The World No.11 showed his sublime Taekwondo skill with an aerial cartwheel, which was just like he had done in the previous win at the All England, after defeating Rasmus Gemke 21-15, 16-21, 21-15.
Despite a total China’s whitewash victory 5-0 rout of Denmark, it was not easy for Li as the Danish opponent managed to pull one set back.
Li took up taekwondo training since he was five, before he started badminton a year later. For your information, he won the taekwondo championships twice – when he was eight, and again a year later. He currently holds a red belt, so the celebration is a piece of cake for Li.
The Host only struggled a bit with Men’s singles as they cruised past in other departments.
With Thursday’s triumph, the reigning Sudirman Cup champions emerged victorious in all 15 matches during the group stage, securing the top spot in Group A.
They holds the record for being the most successful team in the event’s history, having won 12 out of the last 17 editions of the tournament.
Over to Group B, Kunlavut Vitidsarn struck an Erling Haaland-inspired pose after his come-from-behind victory set up Thailand’s defeat of Indonesia in their final group tie.
In case you may ask, it was meditative pose which has been used world wide by numerous athletes from other sports.
Vitidsarn had all the right reasons to celebrate big, as he was trailing for most of the deciding game against Jonatan Christie before eventually emerged as winner of the Men’s single 12-21, 21-12, 22-20.
In the other Group B tie, Canada beat Germany 3-2, with the pivotal win coming from Nyl Yakura/Dong Adam, who beat Malik Bourakkadi/Jones Ralfy Jansen 13-21 21-12 21-15.
