RATCHANOK INTANON BEATS SUPANIDA IN ALL-THAI WOMEN’S FINAL

Ratchanok dominated Supanida Katethong in an all-Thai women’s singles final, 21-12, 21-9, in 30 minutes to hoist the trophy.

The 2013 world champion finally claimed a women’s singles title since she injured her ankle in October.

“I feel more confident now. I don’t think that I’m the best, but I just had good form from the beginning,” Ratchanok said.

It was a sorry loss for Supanida, who defeated PV Sindhu of India in the quarterfinals, 24-26, 21-17, 22-20.

LOH KEAN YEW WIN’S MEN’S TITLE OVER FRENCHMAN

Loh outlasted Frenchman Toma Junior Popov, 21-11, 15-21, 22-20, to grab the men’s singles title at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur.

The Singaporean needed 58 minutes to overcome a second-set loss and a long decider to finish off Popov.

It was Loh’s second win over a French shuttler in the tournament after the Singaporean ousted Popov’s younger brother, Christo Popov, in the round of 16.

“The Olympic qualification period has not ended and I’m quite happy that I managed to end the Europe tour with a victory,” Loh said.

INDONESIAN PAIRS, JAPANESE TANDEM WIN DOUBLES TITLES

King Yap of Malaysia, 21-18, 17-21, 21-19, for the men’s doubles title.

Another Indonesian pair, Rinov Rinaldy, and Pitha Haningtyas, defeated China’s Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi, 17-21,21-12,21-13, for the mixed doubles trophy.

In the women’s doubles final, Iwanaga Rin and Nakanishi Kie of Japan ousted Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amalla Cahaya Pratiwi of Indonesia, 12-21, 21-8, 21-18.
