BARUAH READY TO STEP UP WITH SINDHU OUT IN CHENGDU

Baruah is ready to step up with Sindhu out of the Uber Cup in Chengdu, China, hoping to make India proud.

The 20-year-old Dibrugarh native hopes to carry the momentum of the India squad’s gold medal performance in the National Games in Goa last year.

“Winning the gold medal at the National Games for my state stands as my biggest achievement to date,” Isharani told The Bridge.

“This tournament, a high-level competition, has provided me with vital experience,” she added.

BARUAH PART OF YOUTH-INFUSED INDIA LINEUP FOR UBER CUP

Baruah will be a part of a youth-infused India lineup that hopes to make waves in the Uber Cup.

Baruah’s idol, 24-year-old Ashmitra Chaliha, is also part of the squad along with youngsters Anmol Kharb and Tanvi Sharma in women’s singles.

Shruti Mishra, Priya Konjengbam, Simran Singhi, and Ritika Thaker, comprise India’s doubles squad.

Ashmitra played a big influence on Baruah since the latter – then 15 – watched the former at an all-India level tournament.

“I grew up watching her (Ashmitra), and now she and I practice together,” Ashmitra said.

UBER CUP PART OF BARUAH’S LONG-TERM GOALS

Baruah’s stint in the Uber Cup is just a part of her long-term goals, as she’s ready to follow in Sindhu’s footsteps.

Sindhu pulled out of the Uber Cup to focus on her preparations for the Paris Olympics.

“PV Sindhu is from our academy; she is very hardworking and mentally strong. We get the chance to practice with her,” Baruah recalled.

After the Uber Cup, Baruah eyes to win a medal at the World Championship before preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

“I still have a lot to learn and a lot of hard work needs to be done,” she added.

India opens its Uber Cup campaign against Canada on April 27 before taking on Singapore (April 28) and host China on April 30.
