China sweeps Indonesia, continues Uber Cup semis streak

Defending champions China have extended their dominating streak of semifinal appearances, as it swept aside Indonesia 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the BWF Uber Cup 2022 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

The competition’s most decorated side have continued their trip to the last four in each of their 20 appearances in the competition, as it seeks to extend their record haul which stood at 15 titles.

In the opening singles, Chen Yufei easily dispatched Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi in straight games. The world number three and reigning Olympic champion started the match with seven straight points and never went back for a 21-12, 21-11 win that lasted just 42 minutes.

At the lone doubles rubber, the number 1 tandem of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fai were made to work by the 114th ranked pair of Febriana Kusuma and Amalia Pratiwi, but they eventually swept them 21-19, 21-16.

The other singles match was the longest in the tie, with He Bingjiao needed 56 minutes to dispatch the surprise package, Bilqis Prasista to secure their trip to the last four.

Prasista took the opening game in a nip-and-tuck affair, 21-19, but He later leveled it with a 21-18 conquest in the second game. The third game was a mismatch as the world number nine took it, 21-7 to clinch the tie.

China will face the winner of India and Thailand tomorrow for a place in the semifinal.
