Thailand brush aside India, makes Uber Cup semis
Thailand joined China and Japan in the semifinals of the BWF Uber Cup 2022, as it walloped India, 3-0 in their quarterfinal tie last May 12 at Bangkok’s Impact Arena.
The host nation secured their ticket to the last four for the third tournament in a row, with Ratchanok Intanon produced a fightback to defeat PV Sindhu 18-21, 21-17, 21-12, in the opening singles rubber that lasted almost an hour.
After losing the first game, the world number eight fired back to take the next two games for their first match, which was capped off by firing in seven straight points in the decider.
Then, the world number eight tandem of Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai made a quick work of the scratch pair of Shruti Mishra and Simran Singhi, as it only took just 37 minutes to dispatch them 21-16, 21-13.
But it was not an easy task, as the Thai pair had to claw back in both games, including a seven-point swing in the second game that overturned a three-point deficit into a 12-8 lead that they never relinquish.
To clinch it, world number 10 Pornpawee Chochuwong was just too good and too strong for world number 52 Aakarshi Kashyap to handle, as the former put the hosts over the line with a 21-16, 21-11 result in 42 minutes of badminton.
