A look at the world’s former junior #1 in badminton

Lakshya Sen, world’s number 9, is the one of the top men in Indian badminton, where it had enjoyed a renaissance in the past decade for a country that lives, eats and breathes cricket.

It was not a surprise to see this rise of Sen, who wants to follow in Srikanth Kidambi’s footsteps, with the latter becoming a world number one at one point.

Since debuting in the main stage in 2017, Sen has won ten career men’s singles’ titles in both the BWF International Series and the World Tour, in which he was the top-ranked player in the latter.

2021 saw the continuation of his career season two years ago, where he made it to the semifinals in his World Championship debut in Huelva, in which he fell to Kidambi in a marathon match.

The following year, Sen debuted on the India Open and won the competition in Delhi, sweeping reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew in the final for a momentous win. After that, he went on to reach the final of the prestigious All-England last March, losing to his sparring partner and reigning world number one Viktor Axelsen.

After missing out on Aarhus in the 2020 edition, Sen hopes to debut in the upcoming Thomas Cup in Bangkok, with India qualified owing to their world ranking.
