Player Profile Endō Hiroyuki and Watanabe Yūta
Endō Hiroyuki and Watanabe Yūta are one of three Japanese pairs who are in the top ten of the BWF men’s doubles rankings. This partnership has produced several titles, namely, the 2019 Asian Championships, as well as four BWF World Tour first-place trophies.
The left-handed Watanabe has the distinction of being the first-ever male player from Japan to win an All England Open crown, doing so with Higashino Arisa in mixed doubles in 2018. He won this tournament two more times (2020, 2021), this time in men’s doubles with Endō.
Outside of his forays with Watanabe, Endō’s claim to fame is that he was part of the team that gave Japan its first Thomas Cup championship. Watanabe, meanwhile, was in the Japanese contingent in 2018 that took runner-up honors.
With a deep pool to choose from, it remains to be seen if either or both would be called up for duty this May in Thailand.
