Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting might not have a lot of titles to his name, but he is not a BWF men’s singles world number five for no reason at all. 

The 25-year-old shuttler from Bandung first came to prominence in 2014, where he won two medals at the World Junior Championships (silver in mixed team, bronze in boys’ singles) and one at the Youth Olympics (bronze in boys’ singles). He grabbed a bronze medal in both the 2018 Asian Games and the 2020 Summer Olympics and has a combined four tournament wins in the BWF Superseries and BWF World Tour. 

Despite his minuscule résumé in singles play, Ginting has been a key part of Indonesia’s dominance at the Badminton Asia Team Championships, including a sweep of his assignments en route to a three-peat in 2020. His greatest feat so far is ending Indonesia’s long drought at the Thomas Cup. He tallied a 3-2 record to give his country a record-extending 14th title, their first in almost two decades.
