Loh Kean Yew cruised to the next round – BWF World Championships 2023 Day 2 Highlights

26-year-old Loh Kean Yew beat Azerbaijan’s Indonesian-born shuttler Ade Resky Dwicahyo in 24 minutes as the Singapore superstar bids for a second badminton world title.

The match was short; Loh got off to a great start in the first game, leading 11-2 at the break. He continued the vigorous form and took home the first game 21-4.

In the second game, Dwicahyo was trying to fight back. However, seventh seed Loh was the better of the two, and he won the second game 21-11 to reach the last 16.

In the first round, the Singaporean shuttler opened his campaign with a comfortable win against the Spaniard Pablo Abián.

Meanwhile, top seed and defending champion Viktor Axelsen is also through after crushing ousting France’s Christo Popov 21-6, 21-8.

Sixth seed Li Shi Feng of the Republic of China and India’s 11th seed Lakshya Sen secured spots in the next round as well, after they both won in straight games.

Sindhu bows out early

Former champion PV Sindhu’s wretched run continued as she bowed out of the World Championships. However, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen produced commanding performances to enter the third round in men’s singles.

The most successful Indian at World Championships with five medals, Sindhu lacked any sting in her attack and went down tamely 14-21, 14-21 to old nemesis Nozomi Okuhara of Japan, a 2017 gold medallist and silver winner in 2019.
