BWF World Championships 2023 – Highlights

After the Malaysia badminton Lee Zii Jia ace started the world title in Copenhagen with a famous victory over seeded Jonatan Christie, there were beliefs that the unseeded could reach the very end of the elite tournament.

But two-time world medallist Anders Antonsen outplayed Lee Zii Jia to win straight games at the BWF World Championships to reach the quarterfinal round.

The 21-18, 21-17 dominant win tells it all; Antonsen proved to be the superior side in his home country in the Men’s singles Round of 16.

The Dan remains in the hunt for a third World Championship medal as he looks to complete the set after winning silver and bronze in 2019 and 2021.

The pair met in the World Championships quarterfinal s in 2021, where Lee retired hurt due to a blister.

It was tight before Antonsen found the breakthrough, opening a two-point gap (11-9), and Lee could only struggle.

Antonsen managed to take his lead further with a four-point advantage. Lee saved a game point, but the first game belonged to Antonsen, 21-18.

The second game was no different as the home ace opened an early three-point lead before Lee determined for a comeback. The Dane was one step ahead throughout the game until Lee again leveled the scores. But Antonsen wrapped up the game despite a late charge by Lee to secure his place in the quarterfinals, where four Danish shuttlers will be in action.
