Women’s singles world number three and reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei wants a second straight Uber Cup for China, after a near-perfect display saw regain it from Japan in the 2020 edition. 

Debuting for China at the age of 14, the Hangzhou native was nearly unbeaten in the youth level, winning the girls’ singles titles at the Asian and World Junior Championships. 

Her success continued when she went on to the senior circuit, where she made her splash in Glasgow, Scotland in 2017 on her debut World Championship. Seeded ninth, she made all the way to the last four, beating top seed Yamaguchi Akane on the third round before losing to India’s PV Sindhu. Two years later in Basel, Switzerland, Chen made it back to the World Championship semifinals as the fourth seed but fell to Sindhu once more.  

Her stellar 2019 campaign earned her first ever number one ranking after attaining seven BWF World Tour wins, two of which came against Tai Tzu-ying (All England Open, World Tour Finals). Chen also defeated Tai to claim the women’s singles gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
