Malaysia edge Chinese Taipei, reach BATC 2024 quarters
Malaysia struck early in pulling off a 3-2 win over Chinese Taipei in the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2024 on Thursday.
Lee Zii Jia showed the way for Malaysia before his teammates responded with big victories of their own. The defending champions were rewarded with a place in the quarter-final against Singapore while topping Group B.

Zii Jia opened scoring for the Malaysian men with a 21-16 21-13 victory over Lin Chun. Chinese Taipei responded after Lee Jhe Huei and Lee Yang upset former world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, 21-19 21-17.
Leong Jun Hao beat Lee Chia Hao, 21-19 21-17 before doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani defeated Wang Chi Lin and Yang Po Han, 21-19 21-14, to complete Malaysia’s dominance.
Chinese Taipei closed out the series as Chi Yu Jen dominated Eogene Ewe, 21-16 21-14, in a meaningless final match.
In other men’s results, Kazakhstan beat Brunei, 4-1, in Group B play. In Group C action, Japan downed Thailand, 4-1, while Singapore blanked Myanmar, 5-0.
South Korea edged Indonesia, 3-2, while the United Arab Emirates beat Saudi Arabia, 5-0, in Group action.
