Malaysia shuttler eyes BATC 2024 as fitness test: coach
The Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) 2024 can be used by Malaysian men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong to test his fitness, according to his coach.
Tze Yong needs to be tested if he fully recovers from a back injury he sustained last month, says men’s singles coach Hendrawan. The BATC 2024 is scheduled from February 13-18 in Selangor.
“Players’ preparations have been good, but maybe Tze Yong is more special because this is his first tournament after injury,” Hendrawan told Bernama, as reported by Malay Mail.
“Tze Yong looks good during training, even though not 100 percent yet,” he said. “So if you want to see him fit, you must watch him in the first match.”

Tze Yong suffered a back injury in his match against Koki Watanabe of Japan in the first round of the Malaysian Open on January 10.
The world No.15 hopes to contribute immediately to Team Malaysia once he plays in the BATC 2024.
“I want to play all the matches if my physical condition is good,” Tze Yong said.
He added that he wants “to contribute a point because every point is crucial” in the BATC 2024.
Malaysia will be part of Group B, along with Brunei, Kazakhstan, and Chinese Taipei, in the BATC 2024 team category.
