SEN, SRIKATH, SINDHU OFF TO FLYING START
Sen needed 62 minutes to beat Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao, 21-19, 15-21, 21-11, while Srikanth defeated Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei, 21-17, 21-18.
Sen will next face Chia Hao Lee of Chinese Taipei, while Srikanth gets the tough task of trying to eliminate Zii Jia.
Sindhu opened her campaign with a 21-12, 21013 victory over Thailand’s Pornpicha Choeikeewong.
The win enabled the double Olympic medallist to meet Tomoka Miyazaki in the next round.
ZII JIA BRINGS DOWN FOE IN 42 MINUTES
Zii Jia took out Yang Su Li of Chinese Taipei, 21-19, 21-12, in just 42 minutes.
Malaysia’s world No.10 had to recover from 17-14 and 19-17 deficits to take the opening set before sustaining the attack in the second frame.
Zii Jia is attempting to go on a deep run in Basel as he turns 26 on March 29.
The top seed in the tournament also wants to win his first singles title since claiming the Arctic Open in October last year.
