SINDHU, PRANNOY HURDLE FOES TO REACH SECOND ROUND

Sindhu nearly lost a five-point lead in the decider before steadying the ship to get through a tough opening-day match.
The world No.11 will next face Han Yue of China, whom Sindhu enjoys a 5-0 head-to-head matchup.
Prannoy defeated China’s Lyu Guang Zu, 17-21, 23-21, 23-21.
The world No.9, like Sindhu, also survived an opening-set loss to eliminate world No.16 Lu in 90 minutes.
Prannoy will next face Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yi, who posted an 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 victory over Malaysian Goh Jin Wei.
ZII JIA DOMINATES, LAHSYA SEN FALTERS IN OPENERS
Lee Zii Jia pulled off a 21-9 21-13 triumph over Indian Priyanshu Rajawat in a 39-minute match.
Olympic-bound Lakshya Sen was not as lucky, as he absorbed a 19-21, 15-21 loss to top seed Shi Yu Qi of China.
Another Indian shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth, joined Sen on the sidelines after losing, 14-21, 13-21, to Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting.
MALAYSIAN MEN’S DUO WINS OPENER OVER WORLD CHAMPS
Malaysian men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Feiu and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani upset world champions Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae, 21-13, 21-18.
The second-seeded Koreans were no match for Sze Fei and Izzuddin at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre.
The world No.19 duo will next face China’s He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu.
Meanwhile, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia subdued Indian qualifiers Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi, 21-15, 21-14.
