Sindhu, Srikanth advance in French Open; Zii Jia ousted
India’s PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth advanced but Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia was ousted in the French Open Super 750 badminton tournament.

SINDHU, SRIKANTH PROGRESS INTO SECOND ROUND
Sindhu was dragged into three sets by former World No.8 Michelle Li of Canada before pulling off a 20-22, 22-20, 20-19 win on Wednesday. The victory was completed after one hour and 20 minutes at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle.
Srikanth upset world No.14 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei, 21-15, 20-22, 21-8. It was the world No.24’s third win over Chou in seven matches that took 66 minutes to be completed.
Srikanth will next face world No.17 Lu Guang Zu of China, who eliminated India’s HS Prannoy, 21-17, 21-17.
JOHANSSEN ENDS ZII JIA’S CAMPAIGN EARLY
Zii Jia struggled early and could not recover, as the world No. 10 went down, 21-15, 2-19, to Denmark’s Magnus Johanssen. Zii Jia has failed to get past the second round of the tournament since his debut in 2019.
Malaysian doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah also crashed out in an 18-21, 21-12 setback to China’s Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu.
Another Malaysian duo, Lim Chiew Sian and Vivian Hoo was also eliminated, 21-15, 21-15, to Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu of Australia.
