Sudirman Day 2 Highlights
Day 1’s stumbling start already hinted another poor edition of this year tournament’s Finals for India, as they were beaten 1-4 by Chinese Taipei.
They continue to disappoint by losing 5-0 to Malaysia, marking the exit at the group stage for the second consecutive time.
Last time at Vantaa, Finland, India also could not make it to the knock-out stage.
What happened
Sindhu was the rare spotlight as the no.12 shuttler showed great fightback against no.30 Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei. However, Sindu eventually went down in the end.
For the sport’s fans in China so far, the third match between Sindhu and Goh Jin Wei produced one of the season’s most memorable contests.

Dhruv Kapila and Ashwini Ponnappa could not show much but suffering from no.8 pair of Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie 16-21 17-21 in matter of half an hour.
Srinkanth also failed to get the spirit back, having dominated by Lee Zii Jia 16-21 11-21 in Men’s singles.
In the last two matches, world no. 5 Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy lost 18-21 19-21 to Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in men’s doubles, while Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly went down 15-21 13-21.
India finished at third spot in the group, while Chinese Taipei and Malaysia ending as the top two teams to be quarterfinalists.
