Uber Cup 2022: Knockout pairings set
The intensity heats up in the BWF Uber Cup 2022, with the tournament going into the knockout stages at Bangkok’s Impact Arena on Thursday, May 12
Four unbeaten group winners were seeded in the knockout stage as they learned their opponents in the quarterfinals in a draw that was made Wednesday, May 11. The matches will be played in two separate courts in both the morning and afternoon sessions.
Unlike in the group stage where all five rubbers must be played, the knockout phase is a best-of-five affair, meaning the first to three points advance to the next round.
At the bottom half of the bracket holders China take on Indonesia in the morning session, which is a rematch of their 2018 Group D tie where the former edged the latter 3-2.
They will face the winner of India and host nation Thailand in the semifinal, with the latter looking for revenge in their 2016 quarterfinal tie which the former won, 3-1
Then at the upper half, top-seed Japan will face Chinese Taipei from the top of the bracket, in which Akane Yamaguchi and co are looking to repeat their 2018 win that was integral to their title run.
Awaiting them in the last four is either Korea or Denmark, with the pair meeting again in the last eight. Last time in Aarhus it was An Se-young and co. broke hometown hearts with a quarterfinal sweep.
