TANVI SHARMA LOOKS TO SINDHU FOR INSPIRATION

Sharma is looking at the comebacking Sindu for inspiration, as the 15-year-old tries to make an immediate impact.

As the youngest member of India’s women’s team to the Uber Cup, Sharma sees Sindhu as a role model to start her long career.

“I want to become like Sindhu didi, she’s my champion. I watch all her matches,” Sharma told Press Trust India.

“It was great to just be around her in Malaysia, she was very friendly,” she added.

SHARMA JOINED SINDHU IN BATC BUT DID NOT PLAY

Sharma shared that she and Sindhu were teammates in the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) in February.

However, Sharma she didn’t play as she was nursing an injury at the time.

But the Hoshiarpur-based teenager in Punjab observed Sindhu first-hand in a major competition, which was big for her.

“I wasn’t sad to miss out. I was happy to be part of that team. It was a big moment in my life,” Sharma recalled.

“I learned so much just by observing the seniors, especially Sindhu didi. My confidence really went up after that event,” she added.

SHARMA HAPPY FOR ANMOL KHARB AMID COMPARISONS

Sharma was also happy to see fellow teenager Anmol Kharb shine for India in the BATC.

The 17-year-old Kharb played for the deciding third singles for India in the BATC final that won it for the team.

Sharma lost to Kharb in the Senior National Championships finals in Guwahati where she sustained a hamstring injury.

The injury forced Sharma to skip playing in the BATC in favor of Kharb.

“I couldn’t play in BATC as I had just recovered from the injury and Anmol was playing excellent,” the 15-year-old said.

“I had a muscle jerk in my hamstring in the decider in the finals of Nationals. So I took one-and-a-half months to regain fitness” she added.
