Dissecting the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2022 women’s doubles draw
The TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2022 is less than a week away. Here is the continuation of our analysis of every draw.
We finally got it when the host during the draw consistently mentioned that the competitors “accepted the invitation to play in the World Championships”. There were several players and teams who declined in other events (such as men’s doubles), but they were not as pronounced or high profile as in women’s doubles (and mixed doubles).
In the top ten, Greysia Polii of Indonesia has retired, leaving Apriyani Rahayu without a partner. Chang Ye-na and Kim Hye-rin of South Korea also backed out.
Meanwhile, Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean of Malaysia have called it quits. Aside from them, there were three other teams between ranks 11-20 who decided to not participate in this year’s staging.
With that out of the way, we now focus on who is actually in the tournament.
Top seeds and reigning titlists Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China can have either Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand or Iwanaga Rin and Nakanishi Kie of Japan as quarter-final round foes.
Waiting for them on the semis might be Matsumoto Mayu and Nagahara Wakana of Japan in a rematch. Or it could be either Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan of South Korea or Du Yue and Li Wenmei of China as well.
In the side of Fukushima Yuki and Hirota Sayaka’s side of the bracket, there are Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand as possible fourth-round adversaries. Finally, Matsuyama Nami and Shida Chiharu’s section has an odd mix of three Malaysian pairs as well as two each from India and South Korea.
Other duos worth following are Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Ribka Sugiarto as well as Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi of Indonesia, Pooja Dandu and Sanjana Santosh of India, Vivian Hoo and Lim Chiew Sien of Malaysia, Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard of Thailand, and lastly, Baek Ha-na and Lee Yu-rim of South Korea.
