Korea completes Uber Cup semis cast after taking down Denmark
Capping off the afternoon session last May 12, Korea completed the semifinal cast of the BWF Uber Cup 2022 by dispatching Denmark, 3-0 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.
The Koreans were made to work by the last remaining European team in the competition as it pushed them to the distance, having to come from a game down in each of those ties to score their eighth consecutive semifinal appearance.
In the opening singles match, world number four An Se-young needed 62 minutes to defeat Mia Blichfeldt. The 18-21, 21-15, 21-18 scoreline reflects the gritty nature of the match in which neither player scored six straight points.
On the lone doubles play, the world number two tandem of Lee So-hee and Shin Seung Chan went toe-to-toe with Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen in the longest match of the quarterfinal (at one hour, 23 minutes), before the former eventually pulled through 21-23, 21-16, 21-19.
World number 18 Kim Ga-Eun’s win over Line Christophersen also took three games, but it only needed 47 minutes to win 10-21, 21-9, 21-16.
Korea will face Japan in the semifinal on May 13, with the latter also have endured a marathon with Chinese Taipei before sweeping them in the morning session.
