Thomas Cup 2022: Indonesia, Korea take Group A openers

Indonesia and Korea have won contrasting ties in their opening salvo to their BWF Thomas Cup 2022 campaign, with both nations losing their openers in Group A last May 8 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.

The holders saw Anthony Sinisuka Ginting dropped his rubber to reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew, but they took the rest of the matches to win 4-1 in their afternoon session at Court 2.

A third game was needed for the world number 8 pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Ardianto to repulse Terry Hee and Loh Kean Hean while the rest ended in two-game sweeps.

Later, the Koreans silenced the home crowd in the evening tie with the host nation, as they take a 3-2 victory. Heo Kwang-hee got swept by Kunlavut Vitidsarn, but it won the next three matches to take the tie courtesy of their doubles sweep.

The world number 12 pair of Choi Sol-gyu and Seo Seung-jae have went to play with different partners, but they get the job done.

Perhaps the biggest upset came in the second singles, where world number 22 Kantaphon Wangcharoen was defeated in straight games to Jeon Hyeok-jin who was ranked 267th.
